I just got done watching this film about how farmers all around the country operate their farms and how they each focus on a specific type of farming method for growing their farms. I have to say, for the most part, I have a pretty good idea of what happens in the food industry. They add certain types of ingredients to make the food taste better, or have the food be filled with more fat to make it addictive for people. This film made me go deeper into the food industry. It went to the source of where the food comes from, i.e., the farms. I never knew that certain types of food companies did not work with farmers who do not follow what they are told to do when it comes to what they put into the animals. The film takes the viewer to parts of the country and shows how much farmers care about their community and how they want to make a difference in people's lives by showing them how to eat healthy.
If you're anything like me back in the day, you probably only look at the carbs and calories in what you buy. While watching the film, they make it a point to also look at the ingredients because that's where you'll find all of the key things you need to know if what you're eating is good or bad for you. Things like corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, aka trans fats, artificial sweeteners, and types of sugar. There was a section near the end of the video where two farmers discussed KFC's honey and how they lied to consumers about what was in the honey. It turned out to actually just be syrup with some added stuff in it to make it taste like honey. I like how they added that to the film to let us know that companies lie to us.
The film is called "Fresh." It's a pretty cool watch, and it does a very good job of getting the message along. By showing how farmers raise their animals and how they treat them. These farmers take great pride in their work and don't want their work to be tarnished by companies lying to us about the food we eat. I personally liked it because it takes a deep dive into a farmer's life. They have a platform to preach about how the food industry can be a dirty business. One of the parts that really opened my eyes even more was at the start of the film, where these two couples were talking about their chickens and how, from when they were little, till now, the chickens have grown five times their natural size due to years of being injected with antibiotics and all sorts of weird stuff. I went online to see if it was true, and I went down a rabbit hole on youtube and saw some pretty awful stuff about how people treat chickens. It made me sick. If you want to live a healthier lifestyle but think you have to go on a strict diet where you starve yourself or whatever, the truth is that you don't; all you have to do is avoid certain foods and carbohydrates.
I enjoyed that this blog entry described all the important parts of the movie. I was surprised with all the new knowledge I gained by watching this movie the same way you have. The saddest part for me was watching how chickens get treated in these factory farms. You stated that you went down a rabbit hole watching how chickens get treated on YouTube and I can also agree it is sickening.
